Introducing EZ Tear from Multifilm Packaging. EZ Tear is a co-extruded polyethylene sealant web that is formulated specifically for stand up pouches to make them easy to open. Most stand-up pouches use thick PE webs in order to build stiffness and body to the pouch, making them hard to open. Polyethylene is by nature a very tough and chewy material, and many stand-up pouches require the consumer to use scissors to open the package. Many companies combat this problem with laser scoring, which adds cost, or using a triplex lamination of two layers of polyester (PET) to build body while making the pouch easier to open. This also adds cost as one more production step is required.
EZ Tear can be laminated to just one layer of PET and open easier than most stand-up pouches. Minimal effort is required and the film tears cleanly without the need to use scissors or laser scoring. The key to EZ Tear is the recipe and the cast process: compared to a blown polyethylene film, EZ Tear is cast extruded and thereby oriented marginally in the machine direction. This makes the film tough, yet easier to tear open. EZ Tear also has better clarity than blown polyethylene sealant webs.
EZ Tear is available in various thicknesses between 2 and 3 mil, and can be laminated to polyester or a combination of polyester and metallized polyester for outstanding barrier properties.
EZ Tear is a good solution to any stand-up pouch application for dry foods and snack products, as well as non-food items.
